Practical Example from a Recent Campaign
During a recent campaign on a client’s Vestas wind farm in Brazil, the Windfit AEP Calculator identified three yaw misalignments of approximately 5° on three turbines.
After corrective actions were applied:
Two turbines were adjusted in the correct direction, leading to an improvement in the diagnosis.
The third turbine was adjusted in the wrong direction, which caused the diagnosis to deteriorate.
By comparing the power curves 15 days before and after the yaw misalignment corrections, the tool validated both the performance improvements observed on two turbines and the degradation seen on the third turbine.
The reliability of this before/after comparison is further strengthened by the wind farm’s location in Brazil and the time of the year. During September and October (spring in the Southern Hemisphere), weather conditions are relatively stable, with consistent daily wind patterns. Trade winds are particularly steady during this period, often maintaining similar behavior over several months.
As a result, the before/after power curve analysis provides a highly relevant and robust assessment of the impact of the yaw corrections.
